Introduction to the Student Union

Your Student Union and Support in Student Life

We are the student union for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Linköping University, LinTek. The student union is a student-run organization that all sections collaborate with, and we work to ensure that students have the best possible experience at the university.

LinTek ensures that students’ opinions on exams, the work environment, and many other issues are heard, and we also organize events such as business networking events, the welcome reception, and academic support. The student union exists so that students have a collective voice when issues that affect us are discussed. You can also get involved and make a difference, either by becoming a member or by getting involved in the student union.

The Student Union's Role in Student Life

As an individual student, it can be difficult to be heard and to have a say. That’s why the student union exists—to give us students at LiU a strong, unified voice when dealing with the university and other stakeholders in student life. We work closely with the sections to gather students’ opinions on everything from social events to the work environment. We then bring these opinions to light in our daily interactions with the relevant parties.

For the student union to have as strong a voice as possible, it’s important that we have members. There are many stakeholders with differing agendas on campus, and the more members the student union has, the stronger our voice becomes and the greater our ability to influence decisions based on the students’ wishes.

What does the student union do?

Our goal is to give all science and engineeringstudents the best possible student experience, and to achieve this, we are involved in a wide variety of activities. All the work we do is guided by one of our three core values: education, community, and the future.

Education

LinTek works closely with LiU to ensure that the academic programs are developed and meet the expectations of both students and the job market. We address a number of long-term issues with the university regarding both the content and structure of programs and courses. We are also available to provide support for individual problems that may arise during the course of one’s studies.

We represent students in various decision-making processes, appoint student representatives, and maintain ongoing contact with various departments at Linköping University of Technology to facilitate continuous improvement efforts.

Community

The university isn’t just about studying—the student union makes sure your time as a student has meaning and that your experience at LiTH is as great as possible. This applies not only to the work environment but also to equal opportunities, parties, entertainment, and everything in between.

Here are some of the events we help organize:

  • München Hoben
  • The reception

Future

At the Future Office, we work actively to give all students the best possible foundation for their future. We do this by creating platforms where you have the opportunity to connect with the business community through a variety of events throughout the year. This includes promoting our engineering students to the business community and showcasing the wide range of career opportunities available after graduation. We also organize the annual LARM career fair, where you’ll have the chance to meet and talk with a wide variety of companies.

Why should you join the student union?

Being a member of the student union benefits both you and your studies and student life. Your membership gives the student union a stronger voice and enables it to continue representing students with greater impact. Over the years, LinTek has been able to bring about many, many changes at the university, such as anonymous exams and the Campus Bus that runs between Norrköping and Linköping. All thanks to our members and dedicated students!

As a member, you’ll of course also enjoy all our member benefits:

  • You become a co-owner of the five student union buildings owned by the student unions (Kårhus Kollektivet, Kårallen, Trappan, Örat, Ryds Herrgård).
